Up & Running needed to replace their ageing EPOS estate and so came to us for help...
Up & Running are a well established retailer of running shoes and clothing in the UK, their estate comprising over 30 retail
stores with a mix of corporate-owned and franchise-owned sites.
Back in the autumn of 2006 we were approached by the Company to begin discussing replacement of their ageing EPOS
system which was becoming costly to operate and problematic to customise. Larger companies in particular need the EPOS
system to adapt to their requirements and their existing system could not keep up with the company’s needs.
After numerous discussions with regards to an analysis of their EPOS requirements and a visit to their head office in Harrogate,
a roll-out plan was carefully put together and their staff prepared for the changeover. To keep costs down we were able to utilise
existing EPOS hardware and so had only remote installation of our software to perform - the roll-out of which was successfully
and smoothly performed over the course of several days.
Following the roll-out, a follow up meeting identified some minor issues and teething problems (inevitable due to the size of the
project) which were promptly addressed. Generally the staff were settling into the new EPOS system well, at both store and
head office level.
Further down the line we orchestrated the roll-out of direct stock delivery to stores with EPOS customisation performed to handle the change from their existing warehouse
distribution model. Suppliers could now ship stock directly into store, which represented an immediate overnight saving.
Following that we also handled the changeover of their card processing from separate bank rented terminals to the fully
integrated EPOS processing. This has streamlined the sales process and removed the element of human error from card
transactions altogether. Preliminary calculations showed that the savings in eliminating human error over a sample period
paid for the initial roll-out of the pin pads alone!
Our latest endeavour was to implement an evening briefing report which is automatically generated and sent out to key
head office staff daily, identifying key business issues and highlighting potential problems before they have chance to
impact the business. Information includes notification of late or mismatched stock transfers between stores, early closers
and fraud prevention data. A weekly EPOS metrics report is also issued to all store managers, identifying key performance
indicators; this allows them to make informed operational decisions and maximise revenue and margin.
We continue to work with Up & Running, not just to provide essential day-to-day EPOS support for the stores and head
office, but also to work with them on their plans for the future and whatever new and exciting developments may be
needed.
It has been a pleasure to work with the Company and forge a strong relationship in which both parties benefit.
