MailScout for RISC OS

Plagued by junk email? Waste time (and money!) downloading it? Then say hello to MailScout...

Remember that most email packages that provide filtering facilities only allow you to filter email AFTER it has been downloaded. MailScout provides an additional level of protection in that you can filter out email BEFORE it is downloaded.

MailScout provides a means by which RISC OS users can 'probe' their email boxes (online) and remove unwanted email from the server before downloading their wanted email.

MailScout includes a filtering system which allows the application to spot suspected junk emails and automatically flag them for deletion (based on 'kill words' in the filter files relating to an email's 'From', 'To' or 'Subject' header fields).

Using MailScout is simple...

Click on the icon bar icon to log onto the server. The application gives you a connection status display while the connection is in progress:

Once connected MailScout opens a summary display of emails in your mailbox:

Simply tick those you would like to be deleted (those that fail to pass through the application's filters will be automatically ticked):

Confirm your deletion and those unwanted emails are deleted from your mailbox. Simple. You can then fire-up your email fetcher to download the remaining mail.

Configuring the application is simplicity in itself. All that is needed is the hostname or IP address of your mail server, your mailbox login name and your password:

MailScout can be configured to use either the IMAP protocol (for service providers which provide this functionality; eg. Argonet/Freedom2) or POP3 (which should be supported by all other service providers).

If you are unsure of any of these settings, you can easily obtain them from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
